“There are a couple of 5.12 climbs at the gym recently that have been frustrating for me because I feel like these are the sorts of ‘easy’ twelves I used to send without much work, sometimes even onsighting them. But after the months-long COVID layoff, on routes like these I’ve been struggling. On these particular twelves I tried each of them several times but kept flaming out near the end. There is a definite redpoint crux near the top of each, and I found that I couldn’t seem to rest enough to hold it together for the final bits, failing several times.

But after working together, tonight I easily sent two of these routes, like no big deal! On both of them it had been a few weeks since I tried them, and I can’t say I executed either one perfectly, but when I got near the top I could just tell I wasn’t about to lose it and I had no problem holding on.

Felt like some tangible progress from our (almost) four weeks of work! I’m psyched to keep working and improving. Thank you for your help!”
